It’s Time to Get Unstuck
Do your daily actions align with your current desires and values?
If the answer is “No,” you’re not alone.
We’ve all been there. Considering daily habits and frustratingly thinking to self, “Why am I still acting this way?” OR “Why am I NOT doing that thing I said I’d do?”
From a relationship with food perspective, it might sound like, “Why am I polishing off an entire bag of chips on my own, yet again?” OR “Why have I settled for a cup of coffee as my ‘breakfast’ every morning this week when I know it’s not substantial.” 🙆♀️
You have a desire for positive change but no forward motion. No transformation action, at least not yet!
It’s time to get unstuck.
Are you running on autopilot?
According to Collins Dictionary, “autopilot” is defined as acting without conscious thought because of tiredness, shock, or familiarity with the task being performed.
“Autopilot” is a common and relatable term used amongst new (intuitive eating) nutrition clients. The earliest stages of intuitive eating calls for much self-awareness. In this week’s group program session, each client shared observations from a week’s worth of food journaling. They said things like:
“I’m simply not paying attention to…”
“I just find myself…”
“It’s become an unconscious habit…”
“I’m just eating and then all of a sudden…”
“I think to myself - ‘Welp, I guess that’s what I did…’”
These statements don’t sound very intentional, do they? On the contrary, quite passive!
In order to move away from unhealthy habits and towards healthy sustainable change – it’s crucial to make a shift from:
Unconscious to CONSCIOUS action
Careless to DELIBERATE behavior
Inattentive to MINDFUL living
3 Keys to Shift Out of Autopilot:
Once your recognize you’ve been going through the motions (in any area of life), you can either stay there OR choose to implement small intentional actions to transform your way of living. Here’s a few ways to get started –
Set a daily intention in the morning. Once you’ve identified your intention for the day, write it down in your journal or phone notes so you can reflect back on it. 📝
Practice the art of slowing down. I encourage implementing at least one daily 90-second “pause.” Stillness not only helps increase awareness of needs but also provides you with the space to intentionally meet a need in the following moment. We call this practical self care. ⏱
Share your desired behavior change with a trusted advocate. Get out of your own head and into accountability, a place to find strength and thrive! 🙌
